Couple of points to make after seeing all of the CoH/CoV comparisons:
1) Comparing either PVP or PVE in Eve to CoH/CoV is beyond even apples and carburators. The two games could not be more dissimilar in their approach. In CoH/CoV, what you decide at character selection will be the primary factor in what your character will be when you hit the level cap. In Eve, I can start as anything, train anything, and become anything.
In CoH/CoV PVP, there really is no loss outside of maintaining operability of HQ/Lair. In Eve, whatever you were flying is gone. If you get podded, there go the implants and the cost of a new clone. And even then, replacement depends on item availability. Also, PVP in CoH is not balanced...at all. No class based system ever can be, because one class/skillset will always be generically better at PVP than the others. In Eve, there is no "teh rul3st" race/class/skillset because anyone can be anything, and in the end, what you undock with determines your future.
2) Mining gripes ***** me up. I have mined once - the tutorial. Never done it since. Somehow, I have over 6 million units of various processed ores in my hangars, and I also have plenty of ISK, even if buying advanced skills and better gear constantly bangs on my wallet. I have ore because I reprocess all the junk modules the bad guys drop. I have ISK because missions and ratting pay just fine, even for us lowly cruiser folk.
3) The player market economy in Eve puts any other MMO to shame...period. No contest, not even on the best day.
4) Perhaps one of my favorite things about Eve - what other games call griefers, Eve calls necessary for a well rounded game. I personally detest the Gank Squad, gate campers and griefers, but I love their effect on my gaming experience in Eve. When I jump lowsec, I am nervous, apprehensive and thrilled all at once. If CCP policed those fools, I would be ho-hum about it. The fact that 0.4 has player made laws that change with the second hand on the clock makes the game purely awesome.
5) Final CoH/CoV comparison - HQ/Lair, or what passes as resource control. Compared to Eve, it is laughable. 0.0 space is resource control, not one building and some relic item. Now consider what it took the corporations/alliances that have sovereignty in 0.0 to pull it off. The two games cannot be compared.
